Volunteer Board Members Celebrated at Annual Reception

Post Date:10/23/2017 10:47 AM

Citizens who serve as volunteer board members were honored for their years of service to the City of Melbourne during the City’s 19th Annual Board Reception, October 17 at the Front Street Civic Center.

The annual board reception provides an opportunity for the Mayor and City Council to recognize volunteer board members for their contributions to the city. “Members give generously with their time and talent, take on leadership roles, and contribute ideas and suggestions to projects and assignments,” said Melbourne Mayor Kathy Meehan. “The city’s hardworking volunteer board members deserve our thanks and gratitude for the invaluable role they play in local government.”

In 2017, approximately 131 members served on 17 committees that guide a range of city services from architectural standards and affordable housing to code enforcement and pension planning. Many of the city’s board members have served for multiple years — even decades. Combined, their years of service total more than 1,000. Receiving special recognition at the reception was Mr. Dennis Meehan, who was honored for his 40+ years of service on the Beautification and Environmental Advisory Committee.
