CASE # 17-65874

Location: 2800 block of Maderia Circle

Date and Time: October 2, 2017, 2154

On October 2, 2017 at 9:54PM, the Melbourne Police Department received a 911 call /hang up from a residence on Maderia Circle. Officers responded to the residence when dispatchers could not gain understandable information from the caller. Upon arrival, officers could view the caller through the front window talking on the phone with a gun in his hand. Flores then fired several rounds within the residence and at one point verbally threatened an officer while holding a firearm by his side. The Melbourne SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Unit responded to the scene. When protracted attempts at communicating with the suspect failed, the BCSO tactical robot was sent into the residence where it helped determine the suspect’s location. Chemical agents were introduced into the home, tactical entry was made, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. There were no other occupants in the residence during the incident. The suspect was medically cleared, booked at MPD, and turned over to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

The Melbourne Police Department is appreciative of the community cooperation and patience during the lengthy, but successful standoff.
