Prevent Flooding – Never Stack Trash & Debris Near Storm Drains

Street flooding after heavy rains

Never stack tree trimmings, yard debris or any kind of trash on top of a stormwater inlet. These can wash into and clog the inlet, which could cause flooding on your street. During Tropical Storm Fay, a trash can lid ended up in an inlet like this one and caused an entire neighborhood to flood. Basketballs, sockerballs, frisbees, trash can lids, buckets — all it takes is one thing to block pipes and cause flooding. Bring lose yard décor, toys, sports equipment, and lawn furniture inside.
