Event: Shooting with gunshot victims

Date and Time:  August 4, 2017 2:28 PM

Location:  653 E University Blvd, “U-Mart”

This afternoon at approximately 2:30 PM the Melbourne Police Department received calls advising that shots had been fired and there were victims in the parking lot of the “U-Mart” store located at 653 E. University Blvd. Officers arrived on-scene and located two victims; one with multiple gunshots wounds to his upper torso and face and one with a multiple gunshot wounds to his lower torso/legs.

Thus far the investigation has revealed the following: the victims were pulling out of the U-Mart parking lot on University Blvd when several black males opened fire on their vehicle striking it numerous times. The suspects fled on foot and have not been located. The victims received emergency medical care on-scene and were then transported to the hospital for further treatment.

University Blvd was closed to vehicular traffic for several hours due to the incident and the size of the crime scene.

At this time, there is limited information about the suspects. As more information is obtained there will be further releases.

The Melbourne Police Department would request anyone with information regarding this incident contact the Melbourne Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 321-608-MPD1 (6731) or the Central Florida Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). Calls to Crimeline are anonymous, and tips that lead to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.
