Arbor Day Celebration & Tree Seedling Give-Away, Jan. 20 at Lipscomb Park
The City of Melbourne will host its Annual Arbor Day celebration tomorrow, Jan. 20. This year also marks the 28th year that the city has earned the “Tree City USA” certification from the Arbor Day Foundation.

We will be giving away a variety of tree seedlings on a first-come, first-served basis, including American Sweetgum, Live Oak, Southern Magnolia, Green Ash, Bald Cypress, and Flatwoods Plum.
Tree Planting Ceremony:
Stone Middle School and University Park Elementary School students will join with Melbourne City Council members and members of the Beautification and Environmental Advisory Committee to plant new trees in Lipscomb Park (Live Oak, Southern Magnolia and Red Cedar).
Carol Hebert, President of the Florida Native Plant Society’s Conradina Chapter, will speak about Florida Native Trees.
New This Year:
In addition to helping plant trees at Lipscomb Park, the students from University Park Elementary School and Stone Middle School will spend the day learning about plants and nature. After the Arbor Day ceremony celebration, they will learn how to make bird feeders at Lipscomb Community Center. The University Park Elementary Students will also visit Florida Institute of Technology, where they will go on a private guided tour of the school’s botanical garden.
