Mayor Meehan Proclaims Jan. 9-13 “First Responder Appreciation Week”
During last night's City Council meeting, Mayor Kathy Meehan issued a proclamation designating Jan. 9-13, 2017, as "First Responder Appreciation Week" in the City of Melbourne. She encouraged all citizens to take time out of their day to show first responders and their families how much their service is valued.
First responders include law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMTs who bravely and selflessly risk their lives to protect our families, homes, visitors and businesses. First responders do not hesitate to risk their own lives in order to save the lives of others, and their commitment to continued training, skill enhancement, and interagency coordination makes them vital members of our community.
The proclamation was timed to coincide with the statewide "Florida First Responder Appreciation Week" proclamation issued by Governor Rick Scott this week. The Melbourne City Council echoes Governor Scott’s sentiments and expresses its sincere and utmost gratitude to the first responders in the City of Melbourne for the services they provide.
