Road Resurfacing Project Begins September 12
The first phase of a project to resurface 18.43 miles of roads in the City of Melbourne will begin on Monday, September 12.
The City’s contractor, VA Paving Inc., will begin in the Live Oak subdivision in the north end of Melbourne and will work south, resurfacing Rosewood Lane, Erin Lane, Englewood Drive, Sweet Bay Avenue and Canterbury Lane by September 23.
Paving and milling will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. There will be periodic lane closures and detours during construction, and a city engineering inspector will be on site to minimize any disruptions. During this time, residents are asked to refrain from parking on the street during daylight hours.
Because it is far less expensive to maintain roads through resurfacing than to rebuild them, the Melbourne City Council has been proactive on road maintenance and has dedicated a portion of the millage rate to road resurfacing projects for the past three years.
